Lewis Weather - An Update

For the last  half dozen or more weeks the Isle of Lewis has had little or no rain.  Just like New Zealand's Hawkes Bay up to a week or so ago.  There, however, the similarity ends.  In Hawkes Bay the temperatures  have rarely been below the mid 20s ℃.  The same cannot be said for Lewis where it's been unseasonably cold.

A friend Dave who lives across the valley recently took these photos in the Lews Castle grounds.

I cannot ever recall seeing the grass so brown and dead this far into the spring.  Apparently the lambing ewes are having to be fed supplementary feeds.

  1. Seems to have been unseasonably cold for most of us this year. We've finally had some badly needed rain, and it has been steadily warming up all during the week. For Monday, 23 Celsius is forecast! Can't wait... (although I'd prefer it to be like that tomorrow, when I would have time to make the most of those 23 Celsius.)

    1. Yes Meike. The weather all over the place seems to be unusual this year.

  2. Looks like it does here! (where it's been unseasonably cold and dry as well)

    1. It's very unusual for the Outer Hebrides Monica. I think it was in the 1970s or early 80s when I can last recall so many winter weekends with glorious sun and not being allowed by convention to work in the garden on the Sabbath (my only day off to relax in the garden).

    2. Here no one has been able to do any gardening yet because the ground is still frozen!

  3. Our vegetation looks just like that.
We're still having our dry spell here, however, we have a forecast of showers for the next few days....we'll see.

  4. Ditto. We are promised a "heat-wave" today. The mind boggles as to what constitutes a heat-wave nowadays. Perhaps it will reach 15 Celsius.

    1. It was late 20s on the deck today here in NZ. Brilliant. Now on Lewis 15 would be almost a heatwave.
